Andhra fishermen yet to get hi-tech gadgets
Fishermen in Andhra Pradesh's East Godavari district are unable to use the facility of emergency help service for the last one year, just because of the delay in distribution of the Distress Alert Transmitters (DAT) by the Fisheries Department. The gadgets are being stored in the department’s office.
Be it a fire, medical or any other emergency, fishermen in the mid sea can get help from the Coastguard within no time, thanks to the technological advancement. By installing the DAT, provided free of cost by the Indian Coastguard, the fishermen can access the control room and seek the help during exigencies.
DAP, developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation, will function with the help of satellites. Looks like a lunch box and weighting about two kgs, the Global Positioning System-based gadget can be hanged in a corner of the mechanised boats. It has separate buttons for fire, medical, boat sinking, and men overboard emergencies.
