AP: Rain fury toll rises to 14
Heavy rain lashed Rayalaseema region on Sunday even as the toll in rain-related incidents rose to 14 with three more deaths reported from Visakhapatnam district. However, Telangana and Coastal Andhra were spared of the fury. There was no rain in Hyderabad, but the runoff of Saturday’s downpour began to reach the city’s principal drinking water sources Osmansagar and Himayatsagar. The low pressure area that lay over the north-west Bay of Bengal and the adjoining Orissa, moved towards Bihar and was likely to weaken, according to G. Sudhakar Rao, director, State Met Office. However, the system’s impact would be there for another day in the State. With monsoon turning active over Rayalaseema, Aluru and Seetharamapuram in Kurnool and Nellore districts were battered by a heavy rainfall of 9 cm ad 7 cm respectively. A car got washed away in the swollen Pallevagu stream in Kurnool district and Hebbatam tank in Holagonda mandal breached, affecting a nearby village.
