K'taka: Work on Jayanagar complex begins
The work on rebuilding Puttanna Theatre and some portion of the Jayanagara shopping complex was launched on Saturday. Laying the foundation stone, Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar said the Bangalore Development Authority and the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike are expected to complete the work within two years as there is no hurdle in execution of the project. The new theatre will be named after Puttanna Kanagal, he added. Four blocks The proposed structure, estimated to cost Rs.193 crore will have four blocks. Block-1, which will come up where the theatre exists, will have two basements, a ground floor and six storeys. Shettar said the state government will give the Palike Rs.5,500 crore as mentioned in the civic agency’s budget this year.
